Hi Rebecca, thanks for taking the time to talk with us today. You’ve recently taken on the role of Managing Director. What has the transition been like for you so far? What has been the most rewarding part of becoming Managing Director?
As I’ve been lucky enough to hold a senior Management role for a number of years at S and A, the transition to Managing Director was very smooth. It has been slightly strange not having Andrew there as much recently to run through the day to day, but I have taken a firm grasp on what we need to do as a business moving forward and I could not be prouder of the company and the team.
The most rewarding part of becoming Managing Director is the satisfaction of seeing the company enter its 30th year of trading and watch how the team have grown and how the company has evolved from back when I started back in 2011.
You’ve been with S and A Engineering for over a decade now. How has the business evolved since you first joined? How has your perspective of the business changed now that you are Managing Director?
15 year’s next year! Where has that time gone? We have learnt a lot over the years. Customers have come and gone due to the downturn of the economy, which has been really sad to see, especially after COVID in 2020. We continue to grow and are hoping to bring more to the table for our customers in the coming years. We remain an independent reseller and repair centre and I believe we really give our all to do our best for our customers.
Now that you have taken over leadership of the company, what does a typical day look like for you? What are your goals for S and A Engineering in the future?
A day in the life! Where do I start! It consists of a whole range of tasks. I would like to think I’m very hands on! If something needs doing consider it done regardless of who’s job it is, we all pitch in. Job one for me usually always consists of cash flow, followed by catching up with the team to check on progress. Never a dull day for me at S and A!
My ultimate goal, is to see the business through another 30 years of success. I will make it my aim to try and mirror Andrew’s hard work and dedication over the last 30 years, and give my all to the business to make it a success.
Looking back over your time at S and A Engineering so far, is there a particular project or achievement you’re especially proud of and why?
I literally do a happy dance after every sale we make! Every penny we make, goes towards our goal of being the ‘the best blower repair, sales and service company in the world!’
This year, to celebrate our anniversary, we have given back our time to the community in many ways. From litter picking in the local area to sponsoring our local football team. It’s been a really enjoyable year, especially to welcome the mayor in to help us to celebrate.
I am really proud of the lengths our team go to, to help our customers, whether it be on the technical side of things or just with the day-to-day friendly approach they have.
Blowers are the heart of what S and A Engineering does. What do you think sets S and A Engineering’s approach to blower repair and refurbishment apart from others in the industry?
As I mentioned previous, I feel being an independent repair centre and reseller of many different manufacturers sets us aside from others within the industry. We have family morals and we pride ourselves on employee wellbeing.
And finally, with S and A Engineering celebrating it’s 30th anniversary with the mayors visit, looking ahead, what’s your personal vision for S and A Engineering under your leadership? Where do you see S and A Engineering over the next 5 years?
Over the next 5 years, I hope to grow the workforce, delve further into the pneumatic conveying world and increase our customer base. We have an excellent 5-year business plan in place, for which I have high hopes to achieve what we set out to do.
For 30 years, S and A Engineering have specialised in blower repair and supply, with extensive experience in the sale, maintenance and repair of roots-type positive displacement air blowers.
From our base in Bolton, conveniently located centrally within the UK, we are able to carry out both in-house repairs and onsite maintenance of numerous brands of air blowers. Our blower repair and refurbishment services offer a cost effective and more environmentally friendly alternative to purchasing a new machine. Additionally S and A Engineering also carry a range of spares parts for blowers.
